aatvos designed the Donderen Barnhouse in the northern countryside of The Netherlands for a private family, with a goal to rebuild an existing farmhouse, but one that reflects modern times.
They kept the history and characteristics of the site in mind when designing the new structure, giving hope to those looking to keep a bit of the past when creating a modern day house that looks like a classic barn. They even kept the materials local and budget-friendly.
An expansive deck leads to an elongated swimming pool.
They kept the classic barn shape which allowed for an open and spacious interior.
An open slat system covers the exterior adding privacy while also helping to control the amount of sunlight that filters through to the interior.
The shape of the structure helped create unique rooms that make the most of the space.
Walls of windows allow light to penetrate the house, keeping the spacious feeling.
