A Modern Table with Wooden Gears

Have you ever heard someone say how much better things were built “back in the day”? It’s true, things don’t always seem to be made to last these days, especially things that are made in bulk. Those forgettable pieces of furniture are what inspired Studio Renier Winkelaar to design Craft 2.0. This table has a story, while at the same time being modern and built to last.

Looking at old Dutch windmills and their connections, Winkelaar incorporated wooden gears and pen and hold connections into the design of the wooden table. The goal was to only use one material and no modern elements, like screws.

The 230 – 270 cm table is made of only oak and is held together with only these old connections. If you want to extend the table, you turn the gears.
