Nesting Works Event At DWR

Design Within Reach: Tools for Living presented “Nesting Works,” an artist project and charity event to benefit New York-based non profit organization Housing Works on the evening of Thursday, July 23, 2009.
Eight artists have been commissioned to embellish a set of blank wood Matryoshka or nesting dolls to be debuted at the DWR: Tools For Living store and auctioned off to benefit Housing Works. The artists, from different backgrounds including graffiti, illustration and industrial design, who generously donated their time and talent to Nesting Works are Claw Money, WEST One, Aaron Meshon, Mike Perry, Alison Riley, Travis Cain, David Zachary, and Heidi Kenney.
Design Within Reach: Tools for Living is a wonderful space that works with great artists as well as sponsored charitable events such as this. The event was tiny, but showcased the artists work really well. I love how each artist incorporated their style into these objects and create something wholly different even adding pieces like in the work of Alison Riley and Heidi Kinney. Aaron Meshon however did an amazing job on each one of his nesting dolls incorporating an animal as well as a city into each one.

What a wonderful idea!! Who’s brainchild was this?
Whoever it was — how original and creative! And represents the best of the intersection of commerce, art and charitable causes.
We love especially Aaron Meshon’s work!
Why didn’t the NY artist SSUR do a set of these, he is Russian and all???!!!
I would have picked him way over Claw Money, wtf does she have to do with Matryoshka’s?
Too bad DWR didn’t do their research
SSUR is on point. . .
