Ostrich Nap Pillow

Ostrich Nap Pillow

Kawamura-Ganjavian has created the Ostrich pillow — perfect for napping just about anywhere. Imagine the possibilities on a plane, in your office, outside in the park…

Since we have been working more and more hours, we certainly need some time to rest. Most cultures have not yet included “siesta” time into the workday, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that a power nap is actually very beneficial to productivity and focus.

“It is neither a pillow nor a cushion, nor a bed, nor a garment, but a bit of each at the same time. Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body) for a few minutes, without needing to leave our desk.”

  1. I recognize that some people like to sleep with their heads under the covers, but I am trying to figure out how you would breathe with this. Interesting idea.

That’s a good question. Breathing appears to be a crucial catalyst of homeostasis :P Either the man in the picture is dead, holding his breath, or the device has some breathing apparatus. I would indeed like to know which of these is the case, because I am one of those under the cover sleepers you speak of who would benefit greatly from this pillow. I also have an aversion to sand and enjoy constructing spaceship models. Maybe we should meet up :P <3

  2. @Janet: I thought of that too…interesting all the while though. Very creative. I will agree, especially coming back from Nicaragua, that siesta is a must install for the US. Obama should just go ahead and pull that trigger :)

  3. @Janet @Marcus: I believe the hole that the model has his hand through in the first photo is a breathing hole. Not sure why the model has his hand in the hole… scratch an itch maybe?

  4. Great design! We could use a couple at the office :-)

  6. Oh, the horror! This is an example of trying to solve the wrong problem.

  7. Whaddabout your hair? your makeup? this is a hoax..

  8. Hilarious, freaking hilarious! There are days when everyone wants one of these at the office.

  9. @Tristan—

“shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body)”

Possibly that hole is also a breathing hole, but the ostrich nap pillow is not practical — because it is not safe — for its ostensible purpose. One must take it as satire, as wilful absurdity, or as bad design.

  10. Okay I’m sold, but where the hell can you buy this???

Fantastic observation. If you are right, I need to track one of these things down. I like breathing as well as sleeping :P

  12. It’s a turtleneck onesie for armless babies.

I don’t think we are seeing both sides. I would imagine a layered black mesh section that you can breathe through. And if not, I would modify for that when purchased. You could get fine cotton mesh for the mouth contact area. I’ll buy one when they come out.

I’m sorry, but this looks like a giant rectum that the guy has his head stuck in and the end looks like a sphincter to me. Ridiculous.

It comes with an oxygen tank inside. They just don’t show it. :)

  16. Is it possible to purchase these?

  17. Saw this on Bill mahr tonight had to look it up. Every time I look at the first promo photo I can’t help laughing. It looks like the guy is ashamed of something so he is hiding his head. Cool idea though but like everyone else says how do you breath?
