Paint Swatch Installations by Madiha Siraj

New Jersey-based artist Madiha Siraj’s installations involve thousands of paint swatches from Lowe’s. Those colorful swatches of paint samples are good for more than just deciding on a color to paint your room, they can be used to create dizzying kaleidoscopes of pixelated colors.

Oyster EB-124 (above) shows a project Siraj installed in her studio that include 3D shapes that jut out from the walls. The shapes, and the smaller, brighter swatches from Dunn Edwards, break up the linearity of the grid.

Oyster EB-12 was installed at the California College of the Arts during their Craft Forward Symposium in 2011. The swatches look as if they are growing up the wall and down across the floor, almost as if they are spreading.
