Pulsate: A Dizzying Tile Installation by Lily Jencks and Nathanael Dorent

Architects Lily Jencks and Nathanael Dorent were commissioned by tile showroom Capital Designer Studio to craft a pop-up installation in London’s Primrose Hill to show just what one can do with porcelain tile. The results are a trippy, Op Art-inspired space called Pulsate.

Using four colors of simple Marazzi’s SistemN tiles, the duo got to work creating a space of monochromatic, cartoon-like illusions with hopes of drawing people into the space.

Using a herringbone pattern, they applied the tiles in a three-dimensional fashion leading to the psychedelic effect it has.

They paid close attention to detail because any error would wreck the pattern. They even made it work with the sloped floors and built-in benches.
