Relation by Tsubasa Iwahashi Architects

Relation is a minimalist residence located in Hyogo, Japan, designed by Tsubasa Iwahashi Architects. The clients wanted a home that would foster a connection between the family members, as well as between the neighbors and the town. The architects also wanted to create spaces in which the residents could unwind and detach from the stresses of the day.

As a result, small nooks and a lofted space were created to allow the residents to maintain privacy within the home, without completely losing their relation to the other family members. Small windows provide natural lighting for the compact spaces, while larger panoramic windows are situated in the main living programs.

Much of the home’s construction is exposed, including wooden structural elements and concrete walls and floors which are left untouched. The main living space features an open kitchen that is adjacent to the dining table and living room. A skylight on the upper level provides natural lighting for the staircase and floors below.
