While not as well known as some of their contemporaries, designers Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen still had the skill set and eyes of top-notch designers. First presented in 1949 at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Furniture Exhibition, the Metropolitan Chair is undoubtedly Danish with a classic feel that can hold its own with all of the more acknowledged icons. The chair is finally getting its due after Carl Hansen & Son chose to relaunch it in late 2014.
The Metropolitan Chair (LM92) is now available in solid oak or walnut legs with a leather saddle seat and backrest in either natural, cognac, or black.
Curious about the name? It was dubbed the Metropolitan Chair in 1961 after being purchased by the Metropolitan Museum in New York for its exhibition, The Arts of Denmark.
