Ruth Hiller

I came across Boulder, Colorado-based artist Ruth Hiller and her encaustic paintings and I was immediately enamored. Besides being vibrant in color, the three-dimensional panels contain Day-Glo wax that lights up with the presence of black light.

Ruth was inspired by the 1977 documentary by Charles and Ray Eames entitled Powers of Ten, which takes the viewer on a journey from a picnic in Chicago to the edges of the universe and back in factors of ten. Her fascination with many scientific components is conveyed throughout her work although sometimes as she says it, is “invisible to the naked eye, but felt by the human mind.”
