Schwartz and Architecture designed the remodeling of this 1950’s house in the San Francisco neighborhood of Bernal Heights. With limited square footage, the goal was to maximize the space they had and to capitalize on the city views.
The new staircase placement was a critical piece in the redesign with hopes of adding a third floor at some point. The house is full of clean lines and white details that give the house a bright, open feeling. The darker wood in the kitchen and on the stair treads adds contrast against the mostly white decor.
Check out the custom guardrail on the stairs that was done in collaboration with Andre Caradec of S/U/M Architecture. The perforated white pattern adds a unique characteristic to the house and allows light to flow through.
