Santiago Collection from KEEN

KEEN has launched a new series of sneakers called the Santiago Collection, in the KEEN tradition of making environmentally friendly shoes that last.

The collection is made on Desma machines from the 1950s and made of earth-friendly natural cotton canvas, locally produced rubber, and no adhesives. A factory was opened in the Dominican Republic and 75 Desmas were refurbished, brought back to life to make the Santiago collection.

With the Santiago Collection, KEEN has started a new giving program called HybridLife Hope. Partnering with Kiva.org, the program is a new approach to re-energizing communities through power of micro-credit. The goal is to raise $1 million dollars for micro loans to create opportunity in impoverished communities across the globe. For the launch of the program funds will be focused on North American efforts ranging from the Santiago de los Caballeros to re-energizing the Gulf Region.

The collection launches May 1, 2011.
