A Sculptural Lounge Chair Designed for Dreaming

Famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando partnered with Carl Hansen & Søn to design a sculptural lounge chair that pays tribute to Hans J. Wegner. The Dream Chair combines Danish craftsmanship with traditional Japanese design and is meant to encourage people to spend more time dreaming. Yes, please.

Ando, like Wegner did, likes exploring the possibilities of materials and what is possible structurally. The curvy Dream Chair pushes the boundaries when it comes to designing with wood and what it can do. The beauty of the three-dimensional plywood used is that it can be curved along two axles while it’s being molded giving it its shape.

From Ando:

I have been an admirer of Wegner’s craftsmanship for many years. This collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn made it possible for me to create a piece of furniture from the ground up with the help of a team of skilled professionals.
