A Stunning, One-of-a-Kind Penthouse in Chelsea

This sleek, modern interior renovation came at the hands of Matthew Bremer of New York City’s Architecture in Formation. Located in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, this 1,500 square foot duplex penthouse needed to feel like the city it was located in, so they set out to design a one-of-a-kind home that gives off a sexy, sophisticated vibe we’d like to call home.

Using digital design and fabrication methods, like CNC milling, they created a series of wall panels that mimic the lights of the Manhattan nightscape. The white panels are back-lit with LEDs giving the apartment a dreamy backdrop of its own.

A minimal color palette lets the architectural details take the stage, like the origami folded, plate steel and Corian staircase that leads to the second floor.

The cantilevered stair treads appear to float within the space. A white curved bench sits below.

The sculptural staircase helps to section off the large living area without closing it off. The division allows for two separate seating areas within the larger space.

Upstairs, you’ll find two, light-filled bedrooms and two bathrooms.

A mirrored, back-lit wall in one of the bedrooms, featuring the same dashed pattern as the white wall downstairs, disguises the TV screen.
