Happy 2008!

071205071103

Here we are in 2008. Exciting! I’ve been thinking about the blog a lot on my little vacation. The blogosphere is saturated with blogs about everything and I’m always afraid my little blog will get lost (Technorati says there are 175,000 new blogs every day!) I was recently asked what’s the point of my blog if I am not really selling anything or being paid to post. My response was that I enjoy it and it makes me happy. That being said, I am going to continue doing what I’m doing. If you have any amazing ideas on how DM can be better, you know how to contact me.

I have been asked about my design-related New Year’s Resolutions, so here they are:

1) Post more stuff on DM
2) Buy an expensive piece of furniture or home decor and take pride in it
3) Work extra hard on Vitamin D(esign)
4) Meet more people in San Diego and online
5) Continue making art as often as possible
6) Not freak out when I turn 30 this year!!! OK, I will probably freak out, but I think that’s normal, right? (this one isn’t design-related, but its very important!)

What are your design resolutions?

Beat the Monday Blues

Every Monday on sfgirlbybay, Victoria will have a feature called Unexpected Guests, which she describes as “a behind the scenes look at the homes and studios of artists, crafters, bloggers and designers we’d hopefully all like to learn more about, kind of a ‘close-up-and-personal’ view.” Nice. I like these kinds of posts. Don’t expect me to be in there anytime soon - I’m a disaster right now.

iggadigga suggested I use “Fresh Milk” for my news posts, so that’s what it shall be.

I am still sick, so this might be it for the day.

Indiecontests.com was launched this past week by my friend Sion Lee, the mastermind behind Indiepublic. Indiecontests is a great place to find contests, deals and sales offered by independent artists and designers, independent retailers, and bloggers.

Behr has this cool new product where you can use your own photos of your home and see how different paint colors will look. This minimizes the problems I had with painting, which was: paint, scowl, repaint, grimace, sigh, repaint.

Why didn’t anyone tell me about this blog? It’s like it was written for me.

Minimalist Blogging

Scott Wallick of plaintxt.org has created some minimalist Wordpress 2.0 blog themes that I am envious of, since I use Blogger. These themes are versatile and pleasing to the eye. After all, most blogs center on writing and what better focus that the text itself?
