Form Follows Fun

I want this shirt so badly it hurts, but I just can’t justify spending $55 on a t-shirt.

intelligent. design. is a new company operating under the concept of “intelligent clothing,” or clothing that is encourages people to think (and is also cleverly designed). Their t-shirts contain graphics that are aesthetic, meaningful and thought-provoking, without dictating an opinion. Rather than make statements, the designs invite you to think and come to your own conclusions.

Anonymous Agents’ simple motto “Eat your vegetables, ride your bike, hug your parents and be polite. Dress however the hell you want.” is exactly the way we think everyone should view fashion.

The founder and Creative Director of DwellStudio, Christiane Lemieux studied art history and fashion design before setting up shop in 1999. The Canadian native is inspired both by travel (most Canadians are; it’s so cold up there they’re always on the road in search of sun), literature, the art world, and anything and everything to do with design, from flea markets to estate sales, design magazines to reality television. Lemieux’s most important role — also an endless source of inspiration – is that of mom: to two kids and Jake, the big lumbering lab who commutes to the office with her every morning. Seeing the world through the eyes of her kids and attempting to balance adventures around the globe with stability at home has helped Lemieux refine and redefine what DwellStudio stands for — and though juggling the roles of parent, spouse (she happens to be married to her business partner Josh), and working woman is a challenge, it’s one she adores.
Here are the 5 things that I am dreaming about right this minute — in no particular order…

Although the portrait appears to be very sunny there doesn’t seem to be any happiness on this model’s face. But the collection is nice!
We don’t do gift guides here on Design Milk because, well, everyone does them. We like to be different. So we decided to go in another direction this year. Since our staff is getting larger, we thought it would be fun to ask each person what was on their wishlist this holiday season. So, every day for next 2 weeks we’ll feature a staff wishlist. Check out what Jessica’s got on her list:

1. A Treehouse
I live in Brooklyn, NY where you only have tree lined streets and some parks, but this would be incredible to have in a future backyard.
2. Micaela Greg Knitwear
Drooling over her leggings and also this knit skirt drapes so well.
3. Stilts by Julie Morstad
Fabulous piece of artwork that I think it would look amazing framed in my house. I feel like I see a lot of illustration over the internet, but her work grabs me time and time again.
4. A Porcelain Cactus
I already collect real Cacti so why not have something that will last forever and you never have to water.
5. Beetle and Flor’s Beaver Skull
Handcrafted in Brooklyn and completely original.
6. Black Starburst Booties
I have wanted something like this for a while. I love all the buckles and studs.

Clothing is discarded more often as a result of shifts in fashion as opposed to wear and tear. Consequently, a lot of fabric and other materials are consumed by the clothing industry in large amounts. These minimal dresses by designer Digna Kosse show that even the smallest amount of thread can be used to create garments that make a huge statement without utilizing an excess of material.

Anita Quansah London is a designer from London who produces eclectic, stylish and expressive one-off pieces of clothing and neckpieces. She studied textile design in Chelsea College of Art and Design London and since graduating, she has been working with recycled textiles to create original pieces.
With the knowledge and inspiration gained, she is also working on a collection of jewelery that is a bit of bohemian tribal fused with effortless chic with a modern twist. She is inspired by her passion for creativity, travel (Africa), nature, art, architecture, fashion (contemporary and vintage), and music of past and present generation.
Each piece is handmade in UK using vintage fabrics fused with reclaimed textiles, and materials such as mixed metals-oxidized silver, gold and gunmetal and the introduction of colorful elements such as pearls, beads, rhinestones, ribbon, fringe, rope giving the collection a sense of modernity with a hint of the past.
Valerie Ferus makes incredible knitwear and woven pieces. This sweater is stunning.
