Objet Coloré by Fabrica for Benetton

United Colors of Benetton is well known for their brightly colored attire, so of course they needed a display system that matched their fun sense of style. Created by Fabrica, the research group for Benetton, Object Coloré is a modular shelving and display system designed to complement the product its meant to showcase. Full of bright colors and geometric shapes, it’s a unique approach to displaying an already imaginative brand.
Serpens Collection by Qiu Hao

Chinese fashion designer Qiu Hao teamed up with French photographer Matthieu Belin to shoot his F/W 2011 Serpens Collection. The collection was named after the Serpens constellation (a reptile) and was meant to pay tribute to it. By working with Belin, the line in turn becomes a whole new work of art. The images are just as striking and edgy as the clothing, making this joint venture a strong one.
Visual Illusion Through Textile by Emily Seul Ki Uhm

As part of her graduation collection, Korean designer Emily Seul Ki Uhm worked with stripes and dots on her clothing designs to create illusions and drama. My favorite is how the stripes on the arms of the suits meet up with the lines on the side. It brings something totally different to the appearance when your arms are placed at your sides. Also, the sheer fabric detail on the bottom is so lovely.

Konstantin Grcic, In Periferia, color photography (2011), Limited Edition of 100
Filed Under is a project started by Annahita Kamali and Florian Böhm to explore contradictions in today’s society. Their idea was to show the ambivalence of excessively used images in our visually obsessed culture and publish them onto fabric, and in turn, they create a handmade item. Once that image is printed on silk, the image becomes an object and the object becomes an image.
Our Favorite Pixelated Designs
While pixelated can be a dirty word in the field of photography, in design we welcome it. This collection is just a bit (ha!) of all the fun pixelated design out there. Here are over 15 of our favorite pixelated designs:

Let’s start out with Cristian Zuzunaga who might as well be the king of all things pixelated. We’ve featured his to-die-for Pixel Couch before but check out his Digit rug collection for nanimarquina.
AK47 2012 New Home Collection

The Italian company AK47 recently launched their new home collection for 2012. Their line continues but this time with items for inside the home whereas before, they focused on the outside. They’ve taken simple ideas and created an innovative, space-saving, and extremely functional line of modern housewares that are all about customization for each person’s needs.
Touchables

Touchables is a clothing concept by the New York-based Drew Stanley, where the items invite interaction, and well, touch.
Johnny Cupcakes on Melrose

Boston area entrepreneur Johnny Earle started his label Johnny Cupcakes as a total joke. These days he’s laughing as he crisscrosses the globe promoting his products and brand. Johnny Cupcakes stores are designed as a kind of trickery with classic bakery motifs, but no buns are in the ovens here — it’s silk-screened shirts and hats that are for sale (a similar concept to the Happy Pills candy store we wrote about back in 2007) .
2011 Year in Review: WTF
Every now and then, products, rooms and installations catch our eye, and we find ourselves thinking, “WTF?” We’ve rounded up eleven of our favorite “What were they thinking?” items for an end-of-year WTF extravaganza.

Ghost Urns
Yes, these are what they seem: ghoulish ghost-shaped urns for ashes — actual ashes. Designed by Anna Marinenko, they’re fitted with a glass test tube compartment for the ashes, and the interior walls are done in pretty pastel hues. Definitely for those with a morbid (healthy?) sense of humor.
