Marie-Louise Hellgren showed me her “Pippi Longstocking” chair, a plywood chaise with wool over top, then covered with her removable knitted “stocking” cover. Contact her at mlhdesign [at] home.se.
Japan by Design, a special exhibit located in a room right off the main exhibit hall, was full of contemporary Japanese design and innovation. Some of my favorite contemporary designers and design firms are Japanese, one being Plus Minus Zero, whose modern technological masterpieces I was finally able to see first-hand.
Here’s another roundup of booths I hit while at ICFF.
First up? Jonathan Adler. OK, I am a big JA fan, but this booth looks like a flea market, or my grandmom’s basement. It was packed and busy, and I couldn’t focus.
It was really cool to see Martha Sturdy pieces in person. They seem a lot lighter than I expected.
The Designboom mart was exciting for me this year because I was able to meet some people I’ve talked about before as well as check out some new stuff!
I was finally able to meet Stanley Ruiz, of whom I am a big fan.
The IDSA wall at ICFF was super fun and exciting for me because I was able to meet some Design Milk sponsors!

Next, you can see Aimée Wilder’s booth, and she is the cutest lady ever. Seriously. I am a huge fan of her wallpapers and we chatted for some time. I really loved her clouds design.
While at ICFF, although there were not too many children’s furniture designers, I did happen upon two that I had never heard of before. I’m very excited about these designs, and they are a great alternative to many of the “usual suspects.”
As you can see, I have 2 full bags of press materials to weed through. One exciting thing to note is that the Dwell mag pictured is the June issue, and Design Milk is featured as a Dwell Partner on page 35 — so go pick one up! Also, I’ve been thinking about carrying around that Tom Dixon bag as a purse…
