Yolanda Sanchez's Abstract Paintings
Abstract painter Yolanda Sanchez earned an MFA from Yale in the mid '90s, 15 years after earning a Ph.D. Clinical Psychology from Florida State. It's not surprising that in her artist's statement, Sanchez discusses how her work is "a gathering of [her] awareness of being," and that her goal is "to become a more finely tuned observer." What is obvious to us, and of course the reason we chose her for this week's CMYLK, is that she clearly lives in a beautifully colored world.
Kate Tucker's Abstract Paintings
Kate Tucker is an Australian artist based in Melbourne who works mostly with painting and mixed media installation. She is inspired by the kaleidoscopic wonder of flora and fauna, which immediately makes sense upon viewing her lush, vibrant abstract pieces. For this week's CMYLK, we mocked up Colourlovers palettes of three acrylic works she created this year.
The Awe-Inspiring Work of Chuck Close
Arguably the greatest painter alive, Chuck Close presents amazing new work at Pace Gallery in New York. His ability to calculate color is super-human and his perseverance in the face of dyslexia, prosopagnosia (face-blindness), and partial quadriplegia (!!!) is nothing short of incredible.

Italian artist Francesco Locastro currently creates some fantastic geometric layered paintings from his home base of southern Florida. Starting with wood, he layers spraypaint, epoxy resin, acrylic, and even gold leafing until he achieves an almost 3D, floating effect. I can only imagine how time-consuming each piece must be.
Tulle Portraits by Benjamin Shine
Instead of painting with paint, British artist Benjamin Shine creates his portraits with tulle -- you know, that netting fabric that you see on various gowns or tutus. Shine takes a single piece of tulle and proceeds to pleat, iron, and manipulate it into these hauntingly realistic portraits full of light, shadow, and dimension.
Mid-Century Modern Design Flash Card Set by Jen Renninger
Jen Renninger finally turned her awesome modern paintings in to a flash card set. Each card has the name of the designer and a retro style pattern on the back on the card. The limited edition, numbered and signed set includes 26 cards with a small booklet with info about the designers.
