I discovered Francis Jens Spitta‘s work on Pattern Pulp. In his pillow patterns, he takes inspiration from his own life – he says, “I’ve taken the iconic images of my life and I’ve twisted them around a bit. Those stunning delicate handkerchiefs in my grandmother’s top drawer? Pillows. The batiks I wore in seventh grade? They’ve been urbanized. Those groovy hippie skirts in my mother’s closet? Painterly Ikats. The globes and maps in my fathers office? They’re all pillows…”

When it comes to fashion, Design Milk looks for products that combine high tech sensibilities with a modern aesthetic. This round-up encompasses the most cutting edge style-related items of the year, including watches made from paper and wood, a pair of shoes not quite made for walking, and of course, laptop accessories. I just discovered Dottir & Sonur and I love their first collection of colorful, graphic products.

Swedish designers Marit Lissdaniels and Angelica Utterberg are the creative minds behind Little Studio, a company that makes graphic prints, pillowcases, trays, and cutting boards. The duo is inspired by how children view the world and the way they think outside the box where, as they say, “a triangle could just be a triangle – but it can also be a mountain.” Their happy and colorful designs are playful enough for children but will work equally as well for adults.

Funkle Design is a Norwegian design team that creates a playful collection of pillows, blankets, and linens. The patterns are graphic, colorful, and universally appealing. They feel that each product should have a purpose and tell a story. Funkle describes what they do as “storytelling through textiles.”

My eyeballs almost exploded when I spotted the Not Knot – Turk’s Head pillow by Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir. Love at first sight! Then, I discovered there were three more styles: Ashley’s, Good Luck, and Round Brocade (pictured below, respectively).
