Stunning Lattice Staircase: House N by Maxwan

If ever there was a house that had a staircase inside that you wouldn’t have expected, it would be this one. Called House N and designed by Maxwan, and located in The Netherlands, the home is a was originally the holiday home of a concrete factory owner when it was built back in 1938.

The original structure was in need of repair, having been battered by seaside air and winds over the decades. After repairs, the home was a little small for its new inhabitants, so extensions were added to the original structure, taking in mind to keep it intact and respect the character.

A new living room was added that extended out into the back garden with three walls of glass, creating a new light-filled space that offers views out toward the sea.

Opposite that is a new minimalist kitchen with more glass walls.

However, the real standout in this house is the staircase. A bespoke, spiraling laser-cut lattice pattern winds up toward the sky, reminiscent of breaking waves:
