Guesthouse Mungzip is a minimalist house located in Chungchungnam-do, South Korea, designed by designband YOAP architects. The client was a couple in their 30s looking to make a shift from living in Seoul with a high monthly rent.

The husband and wife decided to move into a rural neighborhood and start a new life in a small town called Sowon-myeon Padori, which translates to “wish” and “wave” in Korean. They wanted the site to include a residence as well as a small guesthouse for dog lovers. The beautiful location, their decision to break social convention, and the unique opportunity to create “special guesthouse for dog lovers” fascinated the architects.

The main intention for the guesthouse was to make it a playground for guests. The site was situated on a slope, and naturally, the main task was to flatten the land. However, due to a fixed budget, the guesthouse and main residence were suggested to be a single entity. The guesthouse took the ground floor along the play area, and the private home was to be stacked above.
