Friday Five with Fady Hachem

For this week’s Friday Five, we check in with Fady Hachem, founder and principal designer of Melbourne-based, multi-disciplinary design agency Hachem, where they cover architecture, interior design, and branding. Melbourne’s Bond Bar, a hidden bar underneath a parking deck, took a risk and let Fady at just 21 years old have carte blanche to design the now legendary space. Just recently, he finished a redesign of the bar and won the Design Selection Award for Good Design Australia as a result. He took a brief break from hanging with Pomeranians (cute!) to share what fuels his creativity.

1. Being in nature.
A walk with my two Pomeranians through Carlton Gardens in Melbourne, always brings me back to the present moment. I love the surrounds and the general happy vibe of people enjoying the grounds in various ways.

2. Exploring.
Travelling to cities with a definite high energy buzz such as New York, it’s contagious, addictive and motivating.

3. The unknown.
I’m inspired by documentaries which reveal and explain facts that completely blow my mind, such as in Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. It puts things into perspective.

4. Going out with my wife.
It is when we are out of the house, enjoying great food or a new place, that we have the most connected and inspiring conversations.

5. Good quality work.
It could be anything such as design, literature a product or branding where the idea and execution behind something is thoughtful, considered and different.
