Iron Casting Works by Odakou Douki

Iron Casting Works is a minimalist design created by Tokyo-based design firm Product Design Center. The firm specializes in managing projects from the initial planning stages, and evolving the development of the product to an international scale. They specialize in a variety of fields including electronics, industrial equipment, furniture, home decor, and art.

For this particular project, they worked with Odakou Douki to manufacture a series of iron castings superimposed with various colors in order to take advantage of the warm texture that comes natural to the casting process. The designs all share a simplistic aesthetic coupled with soft curves and straightforward functionality.

Some of the trays feature a large hole drilled through the center, a functional addition that allows the user to easily grab the item resting on the curved surface. The trays can hold any number of accessories, including pens, scissors, or even sliding calipers, as pictured. While the designs maintain some of their Hokuriku roots, the products are tailored for modern times.
