Small, Narrow Space Becomes a Contemporary Apartment in Cape Town

ARRCC, formerly Antoni Associates, took this De Waterkant, Cape Town apartment, which was just an empty, narrow space before, and transformed it into a contemporary residence with angular components. Located in a trendy area of Cape Town, ARRCC was asked to bring that vibe to the duplex apartment and the result is a dynamic, urban space that floats above the city.

The bare, double-height shell only offered 65 square meters (approx. 700 square feet), leading them to create a light-filled living space with a dark bedroom that cantilevered above.

ARRCC maximized space by tucking part of the kitchen under the dramatic, black steel staircase. The white Careline kitchen flows right into the living room which leads to the terrace.

To bring some color to the space, they used accents from their sister company OKHA which feature modern African graphic prints. OKHA also took charge of the decor.

They commissioned artist Daniel Orme to create the artwork leading up the stairs.

A glass bridge opposite the stairs adds additional square footage to the upper level and gives the resident space for a library.

The bedroom gets an angular feature wall behind the bed, which separates it from the dressing room.

The mostly black bathroom is perfectly moody.
