Dwell Development out of Seattle has been paving the way for green building in recent years. Their latest sets another milestone for the company with the completion of the first 5-Star Built Green Live/Work homes in the Seattle area. The two four-bedroom, two-bath homes sit next to each other and offer people an alternative to having to commute to an office.
On the ground level floors, each unit houses an open office that spans over 700 square feet of commercial space so you simply have to walk down the stairs to go to work. If they don’t have any use for an office, they can rent it out for additional income. Above that, there are three stories of living space.
Each unit is built to accommodate net-zero energy usage, with its solar-ready rooftop configurations, advanced framing, high-impact insulation, triple-glazed windows, and heat recovery systems.
As with previous projects, they used reclaimed materials as much as possible. Both homes are outfitted with reclaimed wood floors, countertops and tile that was made from recycled materials, and locally-sourced cabinets.
The floor above the ground level office is the open concept living room, dining room, and kitchen. The next floor contains two bedrooms and the top floor houses the master suite.
