Planks: Furniture Inspired by Carpenter’s Workbenches

Just in time for London Design Festival, UK’s Benchmark launched a brand new collection with designer Max Lamb that’s called Planks. With a nod to humble carpenter’s workbenches along with 17th and 18th century English country furniture (think boarded chests, box stools, and dough troughs), the collection takes the idea from both of incorporating additional storage to prevent a buildup of clutter.

Lamb’s knowledge of wood leads to using different widths of the material during construction to prevent waste and to display uninterrupted wood grain as much as possible.

The collection will include a dining table, bench, lounge table, console, and shelving (with or without storage).

The dining table features built-in storage right in the middle of the table.

Just like the dining table, the bench hides storage below the seat.

The collection was presented as part of FACTORY at the London Design Festival.
