A Pre-War, NYC Apartment Gets Updated

A 1,300-square-foot pre-war apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan was recently renovated by Kane A|UD (Kane Architecture and Urban Design) who gutted the dated interior before beginning. It had been 50 years since the apartment had been renovated so it was in need of major upgrades in the two bathrooms, the kitchen, and in the utilities.

They kept the historic shell of the apartment while modernizing the kitchen and bathrooms, making sure to retain the original charm.

Dividing walls were removed to help with sight lines between the living spaces. Millwork was added to increase storage and functionality within each room.

The interior benefits from the natural light and the use of a light color palette making the spaces appear bright and larger than they actually are.
