MIRROR MIRROR: A Mirror to Ponder Oneself

Investigating the idea of self-analysis in today’s society, designer Alain Gilles designed a concept mirror that shows how people have become clouded by appearances and the image we see of ourselves through social media and new technologies. MIRROR MIRROR is made up of a large mirror that displays the reflection of ourselves just as we are, “as though that person were already none other than his or her own reflection.” A second, smaller mirror shows a reflection of what/who is observing the image.

The smaller, second mirror is much like society, putting into perspective how we’re seen. The social aspect is represented by the grid, which is “the fabric, of society as a whole.”

Simultaneously, both mirrors aim to represent support and mutual help since they interact with each other.

MIRROR MIRROR was designed for the FONDS ERASME, an organization raising money for medical research in Belgium, who will then auction it, along with many other designs.
