A Modular Furniture Collection Inspired By The Orthoquartzite Rock

Anna Bera is a Polish designer who established The Whole Elements, a design studio and carpentry workshop. It was with this studio that she created the Earth Stone Wood collection, a series of modular furniture inspired by age-old beliefs and emphasized on modern design. She also recently exhibited at Wanted Design.

The multi-faceted design of the collection was inspired by orthoquartzite rocks, used in spiritual beliefs/rituals by the ancient Slavs and found in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, the oldest mountains in Europe. Bera handmade the collection from solid cherry wood and recycled fir wood using a traditional Japanese wood burning technique to create charred wood, or shou sugi ban wood. Each piece can be combined to form a unique, modular creation (for example, a cabinet) or be used on its own as a table, seat, or singular storage unit.

With this collection, Bera aims to highlight tangible structure of the orthoquartzite rock and its intangible attributions, including history, hidden order and changeability.
