Mill Lamp is a minimalist design created by Rotterdam-based designers Earnest Studio. The studio is founded by American-born, Netherlands-based designer Rachel Griffin, whose work reflects research of traditional and industrial production methods while exploring themes of materiality and modularity.
The lamp explores the dexterity of the basic sphere, taking advantage of its shape to create a moveable lamp with complete freedom that maintains its position through balance. According to the designer, just two components – a ball, balanced on a cone – combined with gravity, afford the lamp an exceptionally wide range of motion.
In addition, the lamp is powered by a low-voltage USB connection, and uses energy-efficient LEDs. The light source is covered by a simple shade that precisely projects ambient light within a concentrated area.
