Friday Five with Jackie Munoz

Co-founder of A-INDUSTRIAL, a design/build creative studio in downtown Los Angeles, Jackie Munoz focuses on residential and small business clients bringing her unique, personalized sensibility to each project. She began by studying Architecture and Environmental Design at California Polytechnic University in Pomona and Architecture at the National Technical University School of Architecture in Athens, Greece, and received a Bachelors of Architecture (B.Arch) before going on to work in retail development and commercial design with clients like Walmart, Target, In-N-Out, and Home Depot, to name a few. Munoz’s diverse design interests in industrial, furniture, interior, graphic, and functional design come together with inspirations from traveling, nature, other designers, and comedy, as she approaches each project. In this week’s Friday Five, she shares what keeps her inspired day after day.

1. Natural Form and Pattern
I’ve always found an interest with things that shape the world around us, that is definitely something that inspires my work. Its form and pattern, whether it is something found in nature or man made, that is what sparks my inspiration to rear towards something special and unique.

2. Design / Collaboration
All design excites me and stimulates a creative trigger when brainstorming new ideas and projects. Working with and collaborating with other creatives in all fields of work expands my creativity and essentially bolsters my design skills. It’s refreshing to look at things from another creatives perspective as it forces unique moments into the design process and the chances of doing something new and great are much more likely.

3. Living Walls
I have a fascination with living green walls or vertical gardens place along building surfaces, green roofs, all of them are quite interesting. The thought of green living plants used on walls indoors creates a different sense of space and challenges your surrounding environment.

4. John Cleese
Humor, comedy and John Cleese’s ideas of creativity and thinking when collaborating with others.

5. Travel
Travel will always open my eyes to inspiration. Being able to discover new destinations, landscapes, and experiences truly explores creative insight. Whether it’s a road trip or another country, travel is key to new ideas or thought processes.
