HAY Sonos One Revealed at 2018 Milan Design Week

Last year’s partnership between Danish design brand HAY and IKEA didn’t arrive as a complete surprise, probably because the highly anticipated collaboration under the YPPERLIG collection seemed like a match made in design heaven. But HAY’s latest collaboration announced at Salone del Mobile in Milan delivers an element of surprise in the colorful form of limited edition speakers for Sonos.

Introduced as the HAY for Sonos Limited Edition Collection, besides the color refresh, these new HAY styled Sonos One speakers aren’t different from their normal monochromatic counterparts (except for a small premium in price at $229 vs. $199). Nor is this the first time Sonos has given their smallest speaker a new personality via color. Still, color lovers will undoubtedly welcome the new range offered in red, green and yellow as options, each popularly attributed to HAY’s signature hues.

Sonos One speakers – HAY and regular editions – will eventually offer Airplay 2 as a feature once Apple officially launches the eagerly awaited streaming audio update.

“For me color is one of the most important tools in the design process, and it was very important we didn’t just create a color scale that looked beautiful. Colors can hide completely and disappear or provide contrast – creating ranges in more colors produces more impact and opportunities for mixing items in the home. These speakers deserve to be treated like furniture; strong, independent objects that can blend in or stand out – functional accessories for any room that fit different needs and different spaces,” says Mette Hay, Co-founder, HAY.

The HAY Sonos One is still several months away from availability, slated for September 2018 when it will be made available for order online at sonos.com, or at Sonos flagship stores in NYC, London and Berlin, as well as the HAY House in Copenhagen.
