Möbel: A Modern, Foldable Chair That Can Move with You

Moving is both backbreaking and expensive, so anytime you can move something yourself, it’s the smart way to roll. The best is when you can skip renting a truck and/or having to rely on your friends and just move it yourself, like with the Möbel. The Möbel chair is made to go with you anywhere, as it easily folds up so you can carry it to another spot or move it to your new home. Designed by Tianyi Shi and Max Hampton-Fischer, the super lightweight chair (it’s only 19.8 lbs.) is made from layers of recycled industrial felt that are fixed together to make a honeycomb pattern when expanded.

The layers of felt make the oversized chair strong and durable to fit one or two people, while keeping the weight of the chair down.

Metal snaps are placed on the inside to keep the chair’s form when you need it as a seat and when you’re ready to move it, simply unsnap it, flatten it out, and voilà!

Collaboration with Tae Joong Park, Mohamed Al-Sayed Kamaledin, Shantanu Sathe, and Katie Qi.
