The Bamba Collection by Carolina Ortega

Inspired by her native roots in Colombia, industrial designer Carolina Ortega designed The Bamba, a collection of furniture that depicts the traditional art of Colombian weaving. Bamba is an indigenous word for a “majestic tree,” an age-old motif that represents growth and change. Ortega drew the parallel that, like a tree, we also experience different seasons that in turn affect the type of person we turn out to be.

With The Bamba, Ortega wants to give the user the opportunity and space to self-reflect on their life and experiences. The hand-woven textiles, inspired by art in Colombian culture, are meant to symbolize balance, as in the balance between our inner self and the world that we live in. The collection is made of a mix of materials including plastic, aluminum, wood, and a variety of colorful textiles.
