Studio Rem Encapsulates the Calm of a Foggy Day

The deluge of technology interloping into every aspect of lives may explain the growing popularity of house plants these days, the pull of nature operating as a counterbalance to all things digital. But in these colder months, plants even in moderate climates inside can struggle as the hours of sunlight diminish. That’s where a cloister or terrarium can help retain moisture and warmth for year round growth. Our favorite current option for the modern house plant lover? Studio Rem’s Nebl.

The Nebl derives its name from the German word, “nebel”, meaning fog. Designer Michael Rem’s combination of frosted mouth-blown glass with a ceramic base emulates the mysterious and tactile impression of flora pushing against the quiet gauze of a wall of fog. The glass is designed with two openings, each a different size to allow either a high or low position upon the base.

With Nebl I‘ve tried to capture the impression of a walk on a cold and foggy day in Berlin.

– Michael Rem

The Nebl is also notable for being awarded the Archiproducts Design Award 2018, and is produced and sold by Gejst in two sizes, “large” and “mega”.
