Addit by Rolf Benz: The Universal Building Block of Sofas

To Berlin designers Tina Bunyaprasit and Werner Aisslinger, the living space is a continuously moving collage, so naturally the linchpin of the living room – the sofa – should be modular in design in order to adapt, grow in use, and expand in size when the situation calls for it. Bring in ADDIT, the modular sofa designed for Rolf Benz that’s meant for every occasion. Bunyaprasit and Aisslinger call it “the universal sofa of our time” because it can be expanded piece by piece and it is graphically linear, so it maintains a minimal appearance and almost appears to float on its base. All of this helps ADDIT to blend in with so many home environments.

ADDIT can be combined with shelving units, trays, brackets, and coffee tables. The designers know that while their sofa hopes to be one size fits all, their users come in all physiques – so you can choose between two seat heights to complement your perfect resting posture.

Keshia grew up in Singapore and moved to the U.S. to attend Dartmouth College. When she was living abroad after graduation, a chance enrollment at the Architectural Association Visiting School led to her becoming enamored with door schedules and architectural écriture. She's particularly interested in design for aging, rural architecture, and Asian design heritage.
