An Icon in the Making: The Tobi Sofa for Rexite

Launched in 1968, Italian furniture design brand Rexite can be found the world over. Rexite’s collections of seats, tables, coat racks, clocks and modular systems have come from collaborations with notable names, and are full of creative originality and functional value. In 2019, Davide Raddrizzani took over Rexite from co-founder Rino Pirovano, with the goal of offering increasingly complete furnishing solutions for home and beyond. Tobi, designed by Elena Trevisan, was created as the iconic piece of Rexite’s new chapter.

Timelessly elegant, the trio of Tobi sofas are both voluminous and full of contrast. Tobi seems to float on its four natural (or lacquered) legs, inviting you have a seat and relax. With a solid wood frame, removable wool and velvet covers, and leather and eco-leather upholstery made with recycled PET, Tobi’s three sofas – a 1 seater, 2 seater and 3 seater – are a great match for any environment.

“The initial inspiration was the stepping stones of the Japanese Zen garden, called “tobi-ishi” (飛石). In Japan, before the tea ceremony, the visitor crosses the traditional garden walking on a stone path. Proceeding towards the tea house, guests are invited to leave their daily lives behind and mentally prepare for the ceremony to come. Tobi’s solid wood legs are conceived as the supports of these floating stones, while the fluid forms of its seat return the mind to that state of relaxation experienced during the sensory journey,” said architect and designer, Elena Trevisan.
