Brutopia Takes on the Friendlier Side of Brutalism

Few design styles are as heavy and raw as Brutalism, with its modular forms and monument-like structures. Unicuo Living sought to scale down interior furniture pieces that reflect those aspects of Brutalism, while also reflecting some of the style’s lighter characteristics in Brutopia.

To do so, Unicuo leaned upon basic shapes like the circle and square, and chose materials that had a warm feeling like beech wood. Traditional carpentry and artisanal concrete terrazzo added their own friendly touches to the project as well. The three pieces – Cantilever, Radial and Raíz – are each very different from the other two, allowing you to create new groupings depending upon the space you’re in. One element that ties the three together nicely is their fused base.
