Jinyeong Yeon Creates Padded Chairs Out of Leftover Puffer Coats

Jinyeong Yeon is an industrial designer based in Seoul, creating work that explores an array of materials, especially repurposed. The latest is the Padded Chair, a collaboration with South Korean design brand, shirter, who offered up some of their unsold goose down puffer jackets for the project. The pair of chairs are made from shirter’s Big Goose Down Jackets, which were perfectly fine and functional, but they were hard to sell. Instead of tossing them, Yeon gives them new life while making two unique and cozy chairs.

The puffer jackets are filled with goose down which gives each chair its padded feel, almost like you sat in a chair while wearing your own puffy coat. The original pockets and stitching remain and add fun details to the design, as do the new sewing lines that tailor the coats to fit the shape of the chair.
