The Afternoon Tea Furniture Collection Is Bohinc Studio’s Most Ambitious Yet

At this year’s London Design Festival, Bohinc Studio debuted their Afternoon Tea furniture collection by mixing modern and traditional in a townhome turned showroom. Designed by Lara Bohinc and composed of nine pieces, it’s the studio’s largest, most ambitious collection to date. Playful and feminine, the hallmarks of this series are the spheres and circles used throughout with only a straight line or angle here and there.

The pandemic forced us all to spend more time at home, and I realized I wanted my pieces to make you feel loved, cocooned and happy. I also wanted to create pieces that look like they are good enough to eat. The collection’s name is an appreciation of the sweet comfort of an afternoon tea – happy, joyful and indulgent moments, a time when friends and family meet; an occasion very much missed in recent times.

– Lara Bohinc, Designer

Materials used within Afternoon Tea play an important role, creating contrast between soft textured upholstery with marble, stained wood and metal. Overall the dining chairs, armchairs, sofa, coffee and occasional tables feel warm and welcoming. All pieces are made by hand in the studio workshops in Europe and U.K..

The Kipferl marble desk is made using rosa portugalo marble and has sculptural batons supporting its top, a semi-circular crescent suggesting a sugar coated pastry.

Trevor dining chair’s round spheres form the backrest and armrests, supported by thin metal rods – like bonbons speared on cocktail sticks. They’re made of powder coated steel, with a soft upholstered seat and backrest, and are available with and without armrests.

The Moonrise chandelier in black anodized aluminum is from Bohinc Studio’s 2021 collaboration with Roll & Hill. The Moonrise lighting collection was inspired by phases of the Moon, with round and half round shapes in playful compositions from every angle. They’re constructed using machined aluminum that creates both the structure and the design.

The Kissing Sofa and Kissing Armchair feature two semi-circle layers – one holding the cupped seat and a second forming the backrest. Their lines are covered with soft upholstery with the exception of metal legs and metal cups, which hold the upholstered seat.

The Patisserie coffee table brings together many patisserie inspired shapes: a canelé-like side leg and two bonbon legs lift the table top for an almost haphazard-looking assembly. The table is milled from arrabescato corchia, carrara, nero arquina and rosa Portugalo marbles.

The Macaroon coffee table utilizes fourteen spheres, sandwiched between two round plates for its unique shape. It’s made of 3D milled stained ash, and available in either black or white.

The Profiterole small coffee table and Profiterole occasional table come in marble and wood, respectively. They’re both supported by round dessert-like spheres and semi-cupped legs to hold the top. The coffee table comes in nero marquina or white carrara marble, while the wood side table is 3D milled and available in white or black stained ash.
