The Puzzle-Like Minimal Marquetry Collection

Studio Verbaan’s Minimal Marquetry collection takes their love of clean shapes and traditional craft to a new place. Jordi Verbaan and Solange Frankort refer to it as “design with an art approach and an artwork with design influences.” This technique can be applied to furniture, small objects, or freestanding panels – a smooth surface makes it fair game. By applying puzzle-like pieces of veneer to a structural wood frame a pleasing design is achieved. The resulting pieces have a type of unexpected pattern that’s been created by combining fine oak veneer with various grains, textures, and colors – simplified marquetry. Each piece is handmade in the Netherlands and limited to editions of six.
