Malene Barnett Translates Her Ceramic Work Into Wallpaper

Ask any interior designer and they’ll tell you that wallpaper is gaining in popularity once again. But these wallpapers aren’t your grandmother’s neon floral designs, these are patterned wallcoverings equivalent of wall art. Artist and activist Malene Barnett recently released the exclusive Kindred Wallpaper Collection with Lulu & Georgia. Her work manages to combine the cultural and artistic traditions of the African diaspora with modern art and design. For her contemporary ceramic practice, Barnett looks to the maker community for inspiration. And in the Kindred Wallpaper Collection, she reimagines the patterns of her handmade vessels as wallcoverings. Each pattern – Alaari, Bequia, Heritage, Malou, and Mosaic – expresses texture and color that’s meant to transform any space into one that feels creative and freeing.
