The Shongololo Rug by Ghislaine Viñas Is Inspired by Millipedes

If you’re a lover of design and nature, you might love the Shongololo rug as much as we do. Designed by Dutch-born, New York-based designer Ghislaine Viñas for The Rug Company, the rug instantly injects kooky personality into any space. Viñas was inspired by the shape and movement of millipedes that she found so fascinating when she lived in South Africa as a child. The Shongololo would roll up into a little coil as self-protection when touched. Viñas translated the millipede’s crawling and curled-up forms into Shongololo’s playful design.

The Shongololo rug is available in contrasting and monochromatic color ways, well as varying pile heights. It has a unique outline that extends beyond the traditional rectangular rug, bringing both movement and color into a space.
