5 Events to Look Forward to During Detroit Month of Design

Starting next month in the only UNESCO City of Design in the U.S., Detroit Month of Design, powered by Design Core Detroit, will energize the city and bring out the design community with a month-long schedule of exciting talks, workshops, installations, and other featured events. Design Milk is an official media partner of this captivating festival and while we encourage you to check out the program and attend as many as you can, here are five events we’re particularly excited for:

Detroit sneaker event

Sneaker House

If you’re a sneaker head, you’ll want to head to the WeWork Detroit to check out the Sneaker House presented by Foot Locker. The showcase highlights the diverse and vibrant sneaker culture of Detroit that influences the city’s music, art, sports, and fashion. There will be four featured installations, as well as dynamic displays and artworks by local creatives. The opening reception will be on September 2nd but the gallery will be on view through the rest of the month.

Sewing the Threads of Detroits Fashion Community: Business of Fashion

Speaking of fashion, the Industrial Sewing and Innovating Center (ISAIC) will put on a series of roundtable discussions lead by industry experts to help designers build their fashion businesses. Not only will attendees learn from the experts, they’ll get to network and learn from others who are following similar paths.

Love IT Detroit

This event is a special one because for the first time ever, the Consulate of Italy in Detroit will participate in Detroit Month of Design to showcase both Italian and Detroit design. Reknowned Italian architect and designer Roberto Palomba of ps+A will be designing a physical environment to house the event.
