A 1963 House Renovation That Pays Homage to Architect Oscar Niemeyer

Designed in 1963 by George Reeves, this classic modernist house was beginning to show its age before a renovation by Luigi Rosselli Architects. The clients liked the overall layout of the home, but they wanted improved indoor/outdoor connections and to restore and enhance the original beauty of the design. Nods to iconic Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer are present throughout the residence, like the sculptural concrete awning at the entry that welcomes visitors.

Lush greenery surrounds the all-white structure softening the lines of the angular design.

The interior was connected to the outside with multiple floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open the spaces up. The tropical landscape, designed by Dangar Barin Smith, gives the outdoor space a vacation-like vibe away from its Sydney location.

The corner of the dining room disappears to give the feeling of eating outside.

The original cantilevered switchback staircase was carefully restored.

The curvy bulkhead ceilings in the main living area were saved and restored.
