A Flexible Workshop and Lounge for the Volkswagen Group’s Carmeq

Berlin-based Carmeq GmbH, part of the Volkswagen Group, needed an office update to allow the employees more flexibility with how and where they worked. Actincommon was hired to solve the problem and they gave them an open layout that housed both a place to work and a section to lounge.

The new, light-filled workspace was designed to stimulate and increase creativity and is filled with a range of furniture that can be moved and configured into endless setups as needed. The area allows for team brainstorming, group meetings, or just a comfortable place for individual employees to get some work done.

The stadium-like furniture pieces offer double rows of seating with openings on the end for storage. The backs are upholstered for additional comfort while also helping to reduce sound and add a touch of privacy if needed.

Around back, the furniture modules are open to store stools for additional seating.

Adjacent to the workspace is a corner designed as a relaxing space for employees to take breaks throughout the day. Wall-mounted racks hold magazines and books and different spots for seating are placed for moments to chat or even a cup of coffee.
