Unless you’re in a restaurant, you don’t often see trolley carts (also referred to as bar carts) move around much in a residential setting. Sure, they might migrate to a different room for changing needs, but these usually mobile pieces of furniture tend to stay put once they’re in their designated spot. Designer Omayra Maymó noticed this and reinterpreted the archetype design of a trolley cart to create the Axis Side Table for Kristina Dam Studio.
Constructed entirely out of solid oak wood, Axis functions more as a side table than a trolley cart. Maymó focused less on portability (although the trolley can be wheeled away if needed) and more on its design expression, characterized by the asymmetry and very minimal composition. The lack of typical trolley elements like a handle and four wheels gives Axis its unique, architectural expression and highlights the beauty and warmth of the wood.
