Adam Chapman

The art of Adam Chapman goes beyond just simple drawings. He makes drawings that move.

Diagram of Isolated Moments Forming a Memory is a work from 2008-2009 that explores creating portraits through drawings. By applying programmatic rules, Adam is able to make colored lines and shapes move into portraits of close friends and family. Over 150 portraits are generated, and a complete two-hour cycle will render 50 portraits. The works are framed and mounted like traditional drawings.

In his series, The Starling Drawings, from 2008, Adam created dots in which each is an actual starling or murmuration of starlings. When looped together, they are beautiful, flowing graphite-like drawings. As with the Diagram series, Adam presents each drawing as a framed, size-variable, looped video.
