I may be mistakenly connecting the multi-colored dots here, but the designers behind the newly unveiled adidas Originals Veritas Mid “Print” Pack must have ransacked my pre-teen, 80’s era surf/skate closet. With a confetti parade of minimalist flat graphics flying across three satin nylon matte finishes, each of the color combinations evokes memories of an era when surf wear brands like Town & Country and Maui & Sons flourished with bright and contrasting compositions celebrating color with aplomb (there’s also a little bit of early Nike Air Jordan deconstructed here with the Onix colorway).
Still, the Veritas “Print” Pack’s sleek, pared down profile, choice in upper materials, and the form-fitting FITFOAM midsole all keep this shoe just on this side of contemporary rather than presenting a full-blown throwback experience, kicks which will undoubtedly direct the attention of both those who remember Thrilla Gorilla and those younger with an appreciation for playfully pared down kicks.
