Affordable Custom Upholstery You’ll Actually Love

When someone says custom upholstery, I imagine you immediately think, “I can’t afford that.” That’s the quick conclusion that I always jump to when I hear the word “custom.” Even if you’re moving on from IKEA, and you could afford that sofa at your local furniture store, it’s usually in some unattractive stocked fabric with limited options. When you go to change the fabric (with their basic fabric selection), it’s often for twice the price, sometimes waiting up to 12 weeks for delivery. Interior Define is trying to change that. The Chicago-based company makes modern sofas starting at $900, which is an incredible price, and most of Interior Define’s designs are available in more than 5 configurations, up to 60 fabric options, up to 5 leg options, and 3 cushion-fill options. Hovering around 30% to 40% less than comparable brands.

With all Interior Define sofa purchased, white glove delivery is included, along with a 365-day return policy. And if that wasn’t enough, they give you a dedicated service concierge. Talk about feeling important. Being a good quality manufacturer has a lot to do with customer service, and I can appreciate being able to talk to someone who really cares about my experience with their company.

Growing up in a design family, and then attempting to source my own furniture as a young professional, it became clear how large a void there was for well-designed, custom upholstery at an attainable price. Interior Define exists to make buying a custom sofa an enjoyable (differentiated) experience. -Interior Define Founder, Rob Royer

With a made-to-order approach and a primarily online experience, Interior Define is able to give you an exclusive custom furniture experience at an attainable price point. One of the most important factors in purchasing a sofa is comfort. Many people have a hard time buying upholstery online – I typically want to sit in a sofa before I buy it. Interior Define already thought of a solution: they’ve set up a physical product experience in their Custom Guideshops; the first is based in Chicago with a New York showroom planned for 2016. If you aren’t able to get to their showroom, Interior Define offers complimentary swatches of all of their fabric options, delivered within a few days.

Interior Define isn’t messing around: they’ve received some investment capital and even hired Crate & Barrel president Marta Calle as Executive Chair. We’re always excited about companies that offer modern, custom sofas, but even more thrilled to hear how accessible they are.
