Atelier TERATOMA’s Astronaut-Inspired Technopicnic Backpack

Space exploration and a resurgence in interest in astronaut design seems to be seeping into the zeitgeist [see: Interstellar, The Martian]. If one needs any further proof, take a look at this prototype presented by design studio Atelier TERATOMA, a backpack system incorporating Bluetooth speakers and screen, solar panels for outdoor charging, a USB hub, and lighting designed for exploratory mission into urban outdoor spaces…

The backpack breaks up to reveal a trio of small fold-out hairpin tables accompanied by a pair of seating pillows; a “mission control” center houses all of the accoutrements of the digital lifestyle to complement a picnic amongst asphalt and skyscrapers instead of trees and nature. We’ll leave it up to you whether this idea of urban picnics is truly an escape or pure fantasy.
